Spring Car Cleaning Tips

Spring Car Cleaning Tips

Getting behind the wheel of a clean car is such an enjoyable feeling that we encourage all drivers to clean their vehicles constantly. The transition from winter to spring represents a fantastic opportunity to do just that! We have some useful spring car cleaning tips to help you enjoy the warm spring weather.

  • Exterior – Giving the exterior of your vehicle a good wash is a great way to remove salt, grime, and other debris while protecting the paint. It may be worthwhile to remove the hubcaps to get to the wheel wells too. Afterward, consider waxing your vehicle to leave it shining brightly in the sunlight for weeks to come.
  • Interior – Take to the upholstery with a damp towel to remove any dirt that’s found its way into the seats. It wouldn’t hurt to vacuum thoroughly either. Invest in some specialized leather cleaner if your car has leather seats to leave a shine you’ll enjoy every time you get behind the wheel.
  • Under the Hood – Making sure there’s nothing odd stuck under the hood is another part of spring car cleaning. Keep an eye out for anything that looks abnormal and check the belts and hoses while you’re at it. Clean the battery connections if possible.

If you’d rather just get a new car instead of cleaning your old one, feel free to stop by and see us here at Nick Nicholas Ford. We’ll be happy to help you find your next dream car.

Ford-Magna Partnership Targets Carbon Fiber Subframes

Ford-Magna Partnership

Automakers are constantly pushing the limits for performance and fuel economy by recreating and refining powertrains. Ford is one of the few automakers taking measures to improve fuel economy by dropping weight as well. The manufacturer recently partnered up with Magna to create new carbon fiber subframes.

No matter the make or model, odds are a vehicle’s subframe is primarily made of traditional metals; the new Ford-Magna partnership looks to change that. The pair have created what could very well become the next generation of automotive engineering.

New carbon fiber subframes could dramatically reduce the weight of a vehicle. A subframe made from carbon fiber cuts weight by around 34%, compared to a traditional subframe. The newest innovation is made of two molded pieces and four metal components. By comparison, a traditional subframe is made from 45 steel parts.

Surely a lightweight carbon fiber subframe is weak, right? Wrong. In fact, a carbon fiber subframe has passed all of Magna’s testing and is just as durable as a standard subframe. Ford and Magna have a history together when it comes to performance. Magna developed the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500’s carbon fiber grille opening reinforcement, among other projects. A lighter subframe would lead to weight reduction, increased performance, and a rise in fuel efficiency.

We can’t wait to see the production results of the Ford-Magna partnership here at Nick Nicholas Ford!

Fun Gift Exchange Ideas

That time of the year is rolling around, and it’s a great time for giving! If you want to do a gift exchange at work or with friends, there are plenty to do. Here are some gift exchange ideas besides the obvious “Secret Santa.”

White Elephant – This is sometimes called “Yankee Swap” too. At this gift exchange, everyone anonymously contributes a gift. Going around in a circle, people can either pick an unopened gift from the middle or steal one that someone already has.

Gift Guess – Make gifts a little more fun by wrapping a gift up in a way that disguises it. Everyone looks at it and the first person to guess what it is gets to keep it.

Charity Exchange – Want to give back for the holidays? Have everyone write their name down on a piece of paper along with their favorite charity. Then, have everyone draw someone’s name. Whoever you get, you’ll make a donation to their favorite charity.

Cocktail Swap – Having an adult Christmas exchange? A cocktail swap is a fun way to share your favorite drink with someone. Get a box or bag and put all the ingredients for a yummy cocktail in it. Then, make them all together!

Remember, you can always make up your own gift exchange, too.

Ford’s Last 35 Years – Celebrating Nick Nicholas Ford’s Anniversary!

Nick Nicholas Ford 35th anniversary - Inverness, Florida

We here at Nick Nicholas Ford are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the dealership and, to commemorate the date, we want to look back at Ford’s last 35 years. The last three decades haven’t been without their fair share of problems but we’re proud to say we powered through, just like the Ford F-150 would.

1981 Ford Escort

In 1981, the year the dealership was founded, the fifth-generation Ford Escort officially hit the market. The car shared components with the European model. As a result of the “world” car, Ford added an “Escort” badge over a glove. The Escort eventually became one of the best-selling models of the decade.

Just a few years later in 1985, Ford revolutionized the world of automotive design with the Taurus full-size sedan. The curving lines broke the box-car type bodies that most vehicles held at the time.

1990 brought the Ford Explorer, effectively spurring the launch of the SUV segment. The Explorer quickly out-classed standard station wagons and served as an excellent replacement for the Ford Bronco.

1996 brought innovation that predicted the rise of hybrid and electric vehicles. The Ford Ranger Electric Vehicle boasted features like regenerative braking, lead acid batteries, and a 700-pound payload.

2004 saw Ford brought the GT supercar to the road. The performance-driven model was inspired by the GT40 that ruled the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race in the 1960s.

In 2009, Ford revolutionized performance by offering turbocharged EcoBoost engines. Today, those engines are found in many models throughout Ford’s lineup.

Celebrate with us for the remainder of the year – it’s party time! With new 2017 models in stock already, we’re ready for a new year!

Hurricane Safety Tips

hurricane safety tips flood

Hurricanes can cause lasting, devastating damage to our coastal region. We want to be sure that you’re staying safe during these times with some facts and instructions.

Hazardous Activity

  • Flooding – with so much additional rain coming from these storms, you need to be aware of flooding hazards. It can happen quickly as the storms approach land, and can affect those living even hundreds of miles from the coast.
  • Rip Currents – added pressures, fronts and winds make the tides pull stronger. Watch out for warnings in weather alerts, as well as posted signs on the beaches.
  • Wind – it’s no news that hurricanes are made up of high-powered weather, and winds can damage buildings, trees and other property.

Tips

  • Cover windows – install storm windows on your home to reduce potential breakage
  • Listen to the news – be prepared to respond to officials. If ordered to evacuate, be ready to do so. They will not order you to leave unless the hurricane proposes a huge threat. If it does, it’s in your best interest to listen.

If there’s no call for evacuation, there are still some steps you can take in your home when the storm hits. Stay away from all windows and remain nearest to the middle of the building as you can. Stay calm throughout, and remember these hurricane safety tips.

2017 Ford F-150 to Get New, Powerful Ford EcoBoost V6 Engine

Ford is an automaker known for putting powerful engines into powerful cars – such as the beloved Ford F-150 lineup. Now, one of their most popular engines is getting a huge upgrade.

Model Overview

The 2017 Ford F-150 will be fueled by the new Ford EcoBoost V6 engine. This truck is slated to be the best in its class and to even rival the strength of many diesel engines and V8 engines. It will also make the new Ford F-150 one of the most formidable trucks on the road.2017 Ford F-150 - Ford EcoBoost V6 Engine

The new engine also releases up to 470 lb-ft of torque. This is an improvement of 50 lb-ft over its predecessor – an enormous change from one model to the next. In addition, the F-series trucks are already best-selling vehicles, and this update just makes them greater!

Celebrate Car Care Month this April

Car Care Month

Spring is one of the best times of the year. It marks a fresh start of a warmer season and it also plays host to Car Care Month in April. This month is a perfect time to get started on those repair projects that have been neglected and begin a routine maintenance schedule if you haven’t already.

Getting the small things fixed on your vehicle is an important step in preventing them from becoming larger and costlier problems down the road. That check engine light, wobbly tire, funny sound, or broken body panel can be addressed this month and save you some heartache this upcoming summer or fall.

Once you complete that repair project, we highly recommend a routine maintenance schedule to make sure the components of your car are addressed throughout the months and years to come. The belts, hoses, spark plugs, wires, air filter, and fluid levels all have shelf-lives of either months, years, and/or miles driven therefore need to be replaced periodically.

Whether learning to do it yourself, or taking it in to an expert mechanic at Nick Nicholas Ford, celebrate that bond we all have to our vehicles by caring for it this April.
